DSCTDA Cracks Down on Poor Sanitation at Ambience Mall, Ogbeogonogo Market, Other Locations in Asaba ~ Truth Reporters

In a renewed effort to promote a cleaner and healthier capital city, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has issued a stern warning to the management of Ambience Mall in Asaba over poor sanitation practices uncovered during a recent inspection.

 

Inspectors from the agency found that the commercial plaza lacked basic waste management infrastructure, including waste bins and appropriate refuse disposal systems. The rear alley of the complex was littered with debris, disused materials, and unsanitary waste—conditions that raised serious public health and environmental concerns.

 

“It is unacceptable that a commercial complex of this magnitude does not have provisions for proper waste disposal,” said Mr. Isaac Nwosu, Head of Environment at DSCTDA. “This is a clear violation of the state’s sanitation regulations, and drastic measures will be taken if the situation is not promptly addressed.”

 

Reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy on environmental negligence, the agency has given Ambience Mall management an ultimatum to comply with sanitation standards or face stiff penalties, including fines, temporary closure, or possible legal action.

 

The DSCTDA emphasized that no commercial premises will be exempt from its sanitation enforcement campaign. Plaza owners and tenants are expected to maintain clean surroundings and provide adequate waste receptacles for proper refuse disposal.

 

As part of broader cleanup efforts, the DSCTDA’s Environmental Team, also led by Mr. Nwosu, carried out a major sanitation exercise on August 4 at Ogbeogonogo Market and the Ibusa Junction area. The operation included enforcement of premises sanitation among shop owners along the Ogbeogonogo market corridor—from Ibusa Junction to the Oshimili South Arcade—and removal of goods placed on road setbacks by traders. The move aims to restore order and improve pedestrian access within the bustling market environment.

 

Simultaneously, a sensitization campaign was conducted by Ms. Ngozi Peter, Head of the Corporate Affairs Department of DSCTDA, who led her team in engaging market men and women on the importance of cleanliness, proper waste disposal, and environmental responsibility.

 

Mr. Nwosu, who is supervising the ongoing cleanup, confirmed that the operation will continue the following day as part of the agency’s strategic enforcement of hygiene standards across public and commercial spaces.

 

With further inspections scheduled in additional commercial areas, the DSCTDA reiterated its commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more livable Delta State Capital Territory.
