Delta Govt Addressing NUT’s Concerns Over Primary School Teachers’ Stagnation — Ashibogwu ~ Truth Reporters

The Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Nze Ashibogwu, has assured the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is actively addressing the union’s grievances, particularly regarding the alleged stagnation of primary school teachers on Grade Level 14 despite acquiring higher qualifications.

 

Dr. Ashibogwu emphasized that the present administration is committed to ensuring that every union, including the NUT, receives what is due to them in line with fairness and equity.

 

Speaking in his office in Asaba on issues affecting the primary education sector, the Commissioner stated that his ministry, in collaboration with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has made formal representations to relevant government institutions to engage in dialogue with the aggrieved teachers.

 

He commended primary school teachers in the state for their dedication and personal sacrifices, particularly those who have improved their academic qualifications from certificate to degree levels, noting that the ministry recognizes and appreciates their passion and commitment to their profession.

 

Addressing the planned industrial action by the NUT over the stagnation issue, Ashibogwu said:

 

“On the proposed industrial action over the stagnation of primary school teachers at the Grade Level 14 bar, I am confident that the issues are resolvable. I am happy that something is being done, and very clearly, the teachers will know they have a listening governor.”

 

Dr. Ashibogwu also dismissed claims—especially on social media—that the infrastructure in Delta’s over 1,400 public primary schools falls short of global best practices.

 

According to him:“Our infrastructure in public primary schools continues to improve. We are consistently upgrading facilities across all levels from classroom desks and chairs to renovation and construction of new classrooms, school security through perimeter fencing, provision of ICT equipment, as well as training and retraining of both teaching and non-teaching staff.”

He urged parents and teachers to recognize the sacred responsibility placed upon them in nurturing the state’s children, affirming that the Oborevwori administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment for delivering quality education in the primary education sector.
