Delta lawmaker Odior defects to APC, cites national crisis ~ Truth Reporters

In a major political shift and re-alignment in Delta state, the Ozoro ward 2 People's Democratic Party (PDP) in thousands, has officially collapse structure into the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), citing unresolved crisis at the national level of the PDP.

The resolution was reached during a ward 2 emergency meeting held today  Thursday, 8th of May, 2025, @ the Country home of Hon. Bernard Odior, the Majority Whip of DTHA, and Member Representing Isoko North Constituency in Etevie Community, Ozoro.

Addressing party leaders and supporters of Defunct PDP of Ozoro ward 2 at the meeting, the Majority Whip of DTHA, and Member Representing Isoko North Constituency, described the defection as a necessary step, prompted by the PDP's lingering national leadership crisis.

"We currently have three individuals claiming the position of national secretary in the PDP, no substantive national chairman and incessant postponement of convention due to personal interest.

That level of disunity at the national level of the party PDP, has made it impossible for the party to function effectively. We cannot afford to repeat the Zamfara scenario here in Delta." Majority Whip stated.

The massive defection was democratic, because it was well debated and all grey areas thoroughly examined before the governor, party leaders and stakeholders across the three senatorial districts unanimously agreed that it was the right thing to do.

He assured that come 2027 general elections, the good people of Delta State will vote massively for President Bola Tinubu, governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all candidates of APC, adding that the recent defection was necessary to upscale overall development of the state, as well as to improve the living standards of the people, grow Delta economy to become the largest economy in Nigeria through the strategic implementation of Mr. President's Renewed Hope Agenda and the MORE Agenda of the governor of Delta State.

The Majority Whip commended governor Oborevwori over his visionary leadership,  foresight, and for displaying uncommon humility and political maturity throughout the process leading to the massive defection, pointing out that the political cross carpeting from PDP to APC in Delta State and elsewhere would have been averted if some persons at the national level had agreed to shift ground for peace to reign in the party.

Hon. Odior noted that whenever personal interests or interests of a few individuals override the overall interests of a political party it becomes almost impossible to mend fences and move forward as it is today in the People's Democratic Party.

"The massive defection to the APC in Delta was not the sole decision of governor Sheriff Oborevwori. It was decided by leaders and stakeholders across the 25 local government areas.

"The political cross carpeting was and still handsomely democratic, because it was decided by leaders and stakeholders after intensive and extensive deliberations wherein all the issues were tabled, discussed and agreed upon.

"We agreed to embrace APC, and here we are in party APC. Democracy and good governance entails collective responsibility in choices that we make and in decision making.

"Most importantly, defection to enhance development and good governance is unarguably democratic. Our collective decision to embrace APC in Delta State remain flawless and in tandem with universal principles of democracy. We are in good standing, no shaking.

"The good people of Delta State are going to be the greatest beneficiaries of the new political arrangement in the state. We are now one big, strong and united Delta APC," Odior said.

"I appealed to you my constituents to give me full supports by aligning with All Progressive Congress, APC to ensure the MORE Agenda of Governor Oborevwori and Renewed Hope of President Tinubu are highly felt in Isoko North constituency and Delta state at large

In addition; The Chairman of Defunct Ward 2 PDP, Hon. Patrick Ogwara fondly know as Aduegbo, Chief Gabriel Abegbare, Woman leader, Mrs Mary Ajaso, Youth leader, Comr. Okeoghene Alagba and others, made it clear that the decision was not taken in solation, but rather as part of a collective effort towards achieving a common goal.

They urged every members of the defunct PDP in the ward to back the Governor's initiaties and Hon. Bernard Odior leadership, which he believes will bring about a brighter future for the people.

After the addressed note by the ward 2 leaders of Defunct PDP, the motion for defection was moved by former Isoko North LGA Chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Double Chief Timothy Ezue and seconded by Sir. Raphael Oro Afemari JP, former President-General of Ozoro kingdom and anchor by Barr. Friday Ohworoke, before and was subsequently put to a voice vote and overwhelmingly approved.
