8th National Youth Games, Asaba 2024, record breaking, says Oborevwori ~ Truth Reporters

With about 6,000 athletes and over 1,000 officials participating, the eight edition of the National Youth games, tagged "Asaba 2024", has been described by Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori , as "record breaking" .
The Governor stated this on Thursday 12th September , 2024, at the official opening ceremony of the games at the Stephen Keshi Stadium , Asaba, the Delta State capital..
While stating that Delta is happy to host the NYG back to back, Governor Oborevwori said the State will continue to provide the space and opportunities for the nation,s youths to showcase their talents as well as ensuring standard programme for athletes progression in the country ..
While noting that Delta is synonymous with sports development in Nigeria , Oborevwori commended the Federal ministry of youths and sports as well as the Local Organizing Committee ( LOC), for their steadfastness in organizing the National Youth Games.
The Governor , who lamented the decline in the nation,s sports performance in recent times, advised States to give priority attention to school sports programmes , in order to get young talents that will fill in the shoes of ageing sportsmen and women at the national level
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee ( LOC) , for the games, Chief Solomon Ogba , assured athletes and officials , of adequate logistics support throughout the duration of the games.
While declaring the 8th NYG open, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, said the nation must continue to look at the youth games as an avenue for nurturing and talent development of our youths.
Highpoint of the opening ceremony included march past by the competing states as well as subscription to the relevant oaths of participation by both athletes and officials.
