Group hails Buhari's move to address corruption in NDDC ~ Truth Reporters

The Coalition for Good Governance Delta State, has welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari's move to speed up probe in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) amidst corruption scandals rocking the interventionist agency.

The group in a statement signed by its Chairman and Covener, Comrade Jefferson Oruoghorie said it joins hands in collaboration with all stakeholders and the good people of the Niger Delta region in agitating for the culprits to be brought to book, according to the laws of the land.

Accodring to him, the Niger Delta Development Commission is a federal government agency established by Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo in the year 2000 with the sole mandate of developing the oil rich Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

"One of the core mandates of the Commission is to train and educate the youths of the oil rich Niger Delta regions to curb hostilities and militancy,while developing key infrastructure to promote diversification and productivity.
Which has been the opposite.

"It has come to our notice that there has been an ongoing investigation in the NIGER DELTA DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION(NDDC).

"And is of great importance and necessity that, the BUHARI led administration is up and working towards putting an everlasting stop to the misappropriation of funds meant for the developments of the entire Niger Delta region.

"As a matter of necessity and urgency, we wish to urge the federal government to do the needful to see that,the Niger Delta region get justice from the injustice peddling the Development of the region.

Amid the crisis rocking the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), we have been briefed that President Muhammadu Buhari has given directives for better coordination among security and investigating agencies with the National Assembly to bring about sanity in the system.



"It said President Buhari gave a firm assurance that his administration would put in place a transparent and accountable governance framework, not only in the NDDC but in all other institutions of government.

"We hope that all stakeholders will see that, these culprits will be served justice and prosecuted according to laws of the land." he said.

On the need for peace to reign in the Niger Delta region, the group urged all citizens across the region to be calm and observe what will come out from the investigation on ground.

"The commission was established to speed up development of the region but funds meant for critical provision of infrastructural development are now being embezzled thereby causing setback and underdeveloped in the region.

"We say no to the injustice and corruption impeding the development of the people of the Niger Delta region and we will be in the forefront to fight for the good people of the Niger Delta region," Oruoghorie stated.
