JOB CREATION: DTSG holds business, entrepreneurship training for STEP beneficiaries ~ Truth Reporters

The Office of the Chief Job Creation Officer has begun its first round of Entrepreneurship and Business Management Training (EBMT) for STEP beneficiaries in the 2019/2020 Programme Cycle.

The three day EBMT which began yesterday in Asaba would run till Thurday 18th June, 2020 and would be attended by the first batch of graduating Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme trainees in Decoration and Event Management; Catering and Confectionery; PoP, Screed-Making and Painting; Production of Cleaning Agents, and Hairdressing, Makeover and Braiding.



These first batch of STEP graduates numbering 114 were separated into three categories to enable them to participate in the EBMT on different days in adherence to government’s guidelines on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Coordinator of STEP in the Office of the Chief Job Creation Officer, Mr Nkenchor Onyeisi, congratulated them for completing their training at the training centres meritoriously and for their success at the Completion Proficiency Test.

He said the EBMT is the last part of the STEP training programme which comes after the trainees have undergone four other activities namely the Admission Proficiency Test, Orientation and Personal Effectiveness Training, Vocational Skills Training and Completion Proficiency Test.

He disclosed that 114 beneficiaries are qualified to participate in the EBMT in this first round, explaining that the topics would be taken by seasoned resource persons to adequately prepare them to face the world of business and entrepreneurship.

On his part, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Youth Monitoring and Mentoring, Mr Eddy Mekwunye, in his lecture, “Mentorship for Start-Ups,” said the state government deemed it wise to establish the Directorate of Youth Monitoring and Mentoring (DYMM) to ensure that beneficiaries become successful and are able to sustain their businesses.

While assuring them of continued monitoring after establishment with starter packs, he informed them that DYMM would organize a mentorship programme to guide them while in business.

He charged them to display the right attitude of good character at all times and to make good use of the opportunity provided for them by the Okowa-led administration to improve their livelihood.

The lectures included,” Instruction on Principles and Guides to Start a Business,” “Mentorship of Start-Ups” and “Business Planning Clinic.
