Delta Govt. to monitor oil firms’ GMOUs, CSR implementation ~ Truth Reporters



Delta Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has assured that his administration will monitor the implementation of General Memorandum Of Understanding (GMOU) between host communities and oil companies operating in the state.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday at the palace of Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha, Capt. Joseph I. Timiyan, while flagging off Warri Medical and Welfare Outreach organized by Britannia-U Limited through Lilyford Foundation.


The programme is aimed at providing free medical care and other welfare packages for women in host communities.

Represented by the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emman Amgbaduba, Okowa urged host communities to be peaceful and law-abiding and promised to ensure that companies carried out their corporate social responsibilities.

He stated that the Ministry of Oil and Gas was recently restructured into six departments, which included a Compliance Monitoring department.

"I thank the company for this medical and welfare outreach which was made possible by the peaceful relations that exists between the company and its host communities.

"I must also appreciate His Royal Majesty for his leadership role in ensuring peaceful relations with oil companies and host communities.

"As a state, we are interested in peaceful relations between oil companies operating in the state and their host communities.

"We have restructured the Ministry of Oil and Gas with the creation of a Compliance Monitoring Department to monitor the implementation of GMOUs reached by oil companies and their host communities," he said.

Earlier, the monarch had thanked Delta State Government for the construction of roads and other developmental efforts in Ogulagha kingdom.

In her speech, the Managing Director of Brittannia-U Ltd, Mrs Uju Ifejika, commended the state government for creating enabling environment for investors in the oil and gas sector.

She thanked the people of Ogulagha, who had continued to support the company in its operations and promised to build a health facility in the kingdom.
