Aniagwu pledges support to complete NUJ Secretariat ~ Truth Reporters




Delta State Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has promised to ensure the completion permanent secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council.

Aniagwu assured that the jinx must be broken before the next Democracy Day celebration in the state.

He gave the assurance when he received on courtesy call, the executive members of the council, including members of the 2019 Press Week Committee who had visited to intimate him on preparation for the week to raise funds for the furnishing of the secretariat when completed.

Mr Aniagwu who underscored the need to continue to savour the government and media relationship for good governance, promised to support the present leadership of the NUJ to succeed, particularly with the completion of the council’s secretariat.

He assured the union leadership of his commitment to ensure that a completed secretariat was delivered to the next Democracy Day.

The commissioner, who used meeting to advise his colleagues in the journalism profession, admonished that journalists should build friendship and leave who he referred to as ‘adversarial mentality of journalism where more enemies than partners are made’.

"Again, you must leverage on the partnership of private sector too as a way of letting them appreciate the work you do as equal stakeholders of the society", he stated.

Earlier, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, had solicited the assistance of the Commissioner towards the 2019 Press Week while commending him for efforts made so far in seeing the Delta State NUJ becoming proud owners of a befitting secretariat.

Ikeogwu also asked the Commissioner, a bonafide member of the NUJ, to help reach out to his colleagues and friends to support the programmes and projects of the union for the benefits of its members.
