Okowa mourns former Presidential Adviser, Prof. Emmanuel Edozien ~ Truth Reporters




Delta Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed sadness on the passing of renowned academic and former Presidential Economic Adviser, Prof. Emmanuel Edozien.

Edozien, who died in Lagos at 82 on Saturday, is a sibling of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Professor Chike Edozien.

The deceased was a Professor of International and Development Economics and former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ibadan.

He served as Economic Adviser to the late former President Shehu Shagari and was Chairman, Governing Council, Bells University of Technology, Ota.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, on Saturday in Asaba, Okowa commiserated with the Edozien royal family and people of Asaba over the demise of the astute scholar and economist of repute.

He said that the contributions of departed Edozien to nation-building were outstanding and would long be remembered.

"On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the passing of a renowned academic and economist per excellence, Prof. Emmanuel Edozien, who passed on Saturday in Lagos.

“The news of his death came to me as a shock, especially now that the country is in dire need of his services to improve on our economy.

"He was an outstanding Deltan and accomplished economist who distinguished himself in the service of his country as Economic Adviser to President Shehu Shagari," Okowa said.

He prayed God to accept the deceased’s soul and grant fortitude to the family and friends he left to bear the loss.
